Iron work supplied by IRON WORKS (TLA DESIGNS) Tony Armstrong. 1 Briarscroft, Main Street, Warton, Carnforth. Lancs. LA5 9QF.

Hi my name is Tony Armstrong. I have grown up in this area & now live in the picturesque village of Warton where I have my workshop, situated in the afternoon shadow of Warton Crag, a truly lovely place to work.
I have worked with steel for 14 years & have been designing & making furniture for the last 2 years.

I have always had a desire for unusual things. Finding interesting pieces of wood whilst out walking or steel whilst at work, I would imagine ways I could incorporate them into ornaments or furniture. These made great presents for friends & family from whom I got the encouragement to leave behind my trade & pursue a career that I find both enjoyable & rewarding.

My work was featured at Chelsea & Hampton Court Flower Shows last year where I made bases to commission for ‘Stone Tables’, a local company who use large York stone flags with carved, Celtic designs for garden furniture.

I will be displaying my work at Tatham Park & Chelsea Flower Show this year and I’m currently having my own web site built. Please feel free to contact me regarding commissions.

Driftwood & Sculptured Frame Furniture:

The driftwood is selected from Silverdale & Arnside shores and the steel framework is handcrafted in Warton. Each is unique as the wood determines the shape.

The wood is treated with Danish Oil to enhance its natural beauty & preserve it. Although the wood has stood the test of time, I recommend that you oil it once a year to ensure preservation of the wood for many years to come.

The Bela Collection

The unique bases are handmade from mild steel & painted with the best quality high build vinyl paints.

The handmade wooden tops are made from Quebecan Pine, which are finished with wax.

Pieces can be bought individually or dining room sets can be commissioned to whatever size you desire.

The Butterfly Screen

This design was taken from a Swallow Tailed Butterfly. The screen was made to commission with symmetry & animation in mind.

Its purpose is a safety rail but the client also wanted a contemporary & unusual design.

The George Washington Screen

This screen was commissioned for the George Washington pub in the village of Warton.

I was given a freehand on the design & decided to use the initials of the pub & the Landlord & Lady, the scrollwork is in keeping with other features in the pub.

Railings & Gates

I can also make railings & gates to suit any design.

These gates were handmade to compliment the original wrought iron gate, which is over 100 years old. Railings & gates can be galvanised to ensure a maintenance free life.
